Weeknotes 26-23

Okay yay I’m finally not sick anymore!!!!! On Monday I went to go see Obsession with a bunch of pinball people, great movie! Very spooky, pretty well done, after a point it does kinda feel like a “youtube university” project as Will Wilkinson says, where you can tell he’s mostly directed short films and now needs to fill a 100 minute runtime, but the pacing and tension was great throughout so it’s the most minor critique lol. Really exciting seening this new generation of directors being really successful. Hopefully all this early success (Obsession, Backrooms, etc) lets them get Weird with it or take their time and make things that are really interesting and different. I fully expect there to be a wave of films in the next few years that are very much written from the perspective of people who grew up on the internet and how that affects the way you interact with the world.

This week is the E3-replacement week where all of the big game companies do their trailer announcement streams and while 90% of what’s shown off looks super uninteresting, that 10% is still something!!! These all look pretty good imo!!!!!

Friday I went to go see Covet (aka Yvette Young) with openers Hikes and LITE, all super good! A rare case where I could clearly tell that a huge amount of the crowd was there for the openers since it was insanely packed right at the show start time and then cleared out by the time the headliner went on.

Saturday was a big chore day, suuuuper hot, BUT I finally bought the Bedrock mountain clogs that I’d been thinking about for a while since I realized a local store stocked them. Super nice, definitely going to be wearing them a lot this summer. They have a pretty wide footbed similar to those like barefoot shoes and honestly I kinda Get It (this is for Nick specifically)

Sunday was another Halo 3 LAN party!!! I’ve really loved doing these!!!! Afterwards in my Scrolling time I saw this tweet of Xbox’s “timeline of gamer rooms” and it’s so incredibly tragic, the removal of the sofa in the last photo representing the full transition of video games from an in-person social experience to a solo/online experience, from the living room to the bedroom. So it’s been really nice doing in-person video game days with people again!! Like sure it’s nice that online games exist for my friends that I don’t live near but I feel like these LAN parties are a great middleground where they’re far enough apart where you can convince people to travel for them. Also any opportunity to force my friends to play Videoball with me is good. Love to hang out with my friends yayyyyyyyyy

Things I’ve been into this week!!!
