Chiikawa Dress-up Game

Play the game here!

Every year or two my work puts on an art show of staff and freelancer/intern/”friend of the studio” work, ideally with the intention that everyone makes a new work based on a theme that’s revealed a few months beforehand. I’ve been working here for the last three of these but never made anything for it, but after talking to coworker Michelle we decided to make a Chiikawa dress-up game together! The theme was “a matter of scale”, and chiikawa is “something small and cute”, so it’s fitting, right?

I handled the programming and icons and Michelle did all of the art (around 280 assets!!) so she definitely did the heavy lifting here. As I love to do, I didn’t use any frameworks or libraries, just direct canvas rendering for the character creator and html for the UI. Michelle originally made outfits specifically for each character, but I made a spreadsheet so she could go through and see who could wear each other’s outfits.

Feel free to send me your chiikawa if you make one! I love to see what people have made with this n_n
