Weeknotes 26-35
Wow what a week. Started it off with a really great session of Big Walk and went to go see Teenage Sex and Death at Camp Miasma (great movie!), then had a really Bad Time at work, and then ended with a fun busy weekend??? I continued my coffee journey, I made ~4 pour-overs this week (with the Broadsheet Uganda Yembek Anaerobic Natural), I’m getting there I think!! Each cup has been better than the last. I’m pretty bad at both pouring and like, knowing by muscle memory the pour rate to hit the times people recommend, but honestly they’ve come out really well as long as I hit the ballpark, so I’m not to worried. It’s yummy regardless :3c
Big Walk, great as always! Some really good moments this week! We unlocked the train, and while messing around on it I went to sit on the back edge, but when I stood up I fell off onto the tracks just as we entered a tunnel. I started running after the train down the tunnel, slowly catching up. Just as the tunnel was ending, I jumped up onto the train and someone grabbed me, I was saved!! But then I jumped so I could get off of the person who picked me up and I fell again off the train, this time down a cliffside into a ravine. Thankfully Rachel dropped her walkie-talkie at the same time, so I picked that up and called into the train to tell them to stop, climbing up a hill to the next ground-level train crossing. Then we rode the train around the island before logging off, really nice :’)
We played mahjong at work again this week, this time teaching Sarah Chinese-style rules, which I thought went pretty well. Fun game!!! I’ve been playing a lotttt of Mahjong Soul recently, I love riichi but I also love all of the assists that the app gives you, like telling you the number of remaining tiles you need to win and doras and if you’re in furiten and other stuff like that. Afterwards Gabby and I met up with friends Olivia and Emily to see Camp Miasma. Soooooooo good, way funnier than I expected. Gorgeous visually with all of those hand-painted backgrounds. Also really funny movie to watch with a coworker I think lol
Thursday……… Not good! One of my coworkers that I’m pretty close to got laid off. Or, well, fired, but that messaging was only changed as of Sunday. Thursday and Friday we were all under the impression that it was a layoff, not a firing. No one is happy about this and the vibes are rancid in the office. Since some coworkers were coming to Thursday pinball she came along to tell the rest of them, we kept trying to convince her to stay for the actual tournament (both because it’d be fun and also to take her mind off of it) but it had been a long day so she just went home. I saw her again Saturday morning when we went to a cafe to chat, I originally wasn’t going to bring up the whole thing but it was kinda impossible not to talk about it, but thankfully it wasn’t all we talked about.
The rest of Saturday was a Chilling day. I watched The Guest in preparation for the director’s new movie Onslaught which I’m honestly now more interested in after watching The Guest. Really interesting movie, does some really interesting stuff with tone and genre, shifting from mystery to horror to action, all while being a pretty interesting allegory for The Troops, and also just being a fun movie!
Sunday I helped Olivia move out of her apartment, which is exciting for her since she’ll be in a new area of the city and closer to some of her friends and paying less money for more space!! Sad for me since she won’t be walking distance anymore! Good thing we finished up Buffy before this lol. After getting thoroughly exhausted I went out for some friends’ combo birthday party which was fun!!!! We did like 1.5 jigsaw puzzles lmao
