Weeknotes 26-41

Hello!!! It’s truly fall…… temperature hovering around the mid-60s all week, time to pull out all of my sweaters and layers!!

Saw She’s Green (with Smush and Witches Exist opening), sooooo good, love their new album and they played a great variety of stuff (basically playing their new EP in order with 1-2 older songs in between each one)

Went to pinball both Wednesday and Thursday, did exactly average at both of them. Finals are up in Maine this season, and even though I didn’t get close to qualifying last season I still went anyway just to hang out, and I can’t really see myself doing that this time. Like, I could if I made a big weekend of it but driving 2.5 hours each way just to watch people play pinball is not particularly appealing to me lol.

Had a fun weekend hanging out with friends and playing Halo 3 and MW2 n_n On Sunday to celebrate a friend getting a job (after being unemployed for like eight months) we got dinner and then watched a compilation of the “Bye Sister”/Dramageddon 2.0 videos which I had vaguely heard about but had never seen, truly fascinating watching those without any context and trying to piece together the story from what they were all talking about. Though it was funny getting to the end of it and watching the Shane Dawson reaction video and realizing that I had actually seen clips from that stream when it was happening but I had no idea any of the context. lmao!!!!! Moral of the story: people should not become famous before they’re in their 20s and social media audiences are terrifying.

I’ve been using Halide for a couple years now, and version 3 since it was in beta, but I feel like I’ve really been drawn to it a lot more recently, defaulting to it for all the photos I take with my phone, and reaching for my phone more often to take photos. Weirdly I feel like this is because of my film point and shoot, there’s something appealing about a camera that takes “bad” photos. Like I love my fuji, but there’s something nice about getting instantly very opinionated and stylized looking photos from something I always have with me. Which is also what Becca Farsace is saying in her iPhone 18 Pro review, that so much of what makes it good is that you can take “bad” photos with it. Like I just love how grainy and blurry these are:

Finally got around to finishing The Left Hand of Darkness, ended up really enjoying it! The first half is the kind of sci-fi/fantasy I don’t like, which is very “political” in that it’s all about like, government relations and trade negotiations and land disputes and broad societal things that I just find it hard to connect with, but the second half has a shift into a much more personal story just following the two main characters and I really loved it from there onward. Lots of interesting things to think about in it, kinda crazy to think it was written in the 60s with how it discusses gender and just the way it was written (though I feel like if it was written now things would be pretty different, like there’s no usage of singular “they” in here). Definitely want to read more of her novels now, maybe Earthsea next??? After I read some more books that I already own, and calcvol 5 comes out in a month……….
